President
Dr. Apollone Reid considers herself a visionary, whose life’s mission is to promote Jamaica abroad and implement programs at home to mitigate the effects of the inequities that lead to crime and underemployment in Jamaica.
After completing her training at the University Hospital of the West Indies School of Physiotherapy in 1976, graduating with a gold medal for most outstanding student, Dr. Reid continued on to work as a physical therapist in both Jamaica and the United States. She has owned her own private physiotherapy clinic and other businesses in the tourism sector in Jamaica, while also managing her husband’s dental practice for over 40 years. She also holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy & Administration, an MSc in Public Health, and a BSc in Psychology.
Apollone’s passion for volunteering began when she became President and Cofounder of Committee Against Reckless Driving (CARD), which she conceptualized following the tragic death of her younger sister in a motor vehicle accident. She was invited to join the Board of the Jamaican National Road Safety Council, in recognition of her impactful contributions that influenced safety on the roads in Jamaica and her work with the Jamaica Constabulary Force. While a Board member at this nongovernmental organization, Jamaica instituted the mandatory wearing of seat belts and use of breathalyzer for identifying persons driving under the influence of alcohol.
Dr. Reid has also served as a member of the advisory board of the National Physical Therapy Traveler Magazine (U.S.A), Former Trustee of Atlanta Jamaican Association (AJA), and Kiwanis Club of Montego Bay committee chairperson.
She believes in making the world a better place for others and lives by the mantra: If you can dream it, you can establish it. This belief, she states, has given her the passion and determination to realize the establishment of the Jamaican Museum and Cultural Center in Atlanta, Georgia, as she works alongside a committed and resourceful team of individual volunteers with a shared vision. Apollone currently serves as the president of the Jamaican Museum and Cultural Center and is determined to leave a legacy for Jamaica in Atlanta.
