JAMAICAN MUSEUM AND CULTURAL CENTER RECEIVES ATLANTA CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY AWARD

The Jamaican Museum and Cultural Center Inc (JMCC) recently received the outstanding award for excellent service in the community at the March 9th, 2024 Atlanta Caribbean Community Awards.

We are honored to be recognized by such a prestigious committee, while sharing the stage with exceptional philanthropic individuals from across the Caribbean and Atlanta. We have been fulfilling our vision of preserving and disseminating the traditions of the Jamaican culture through our newest program on the history of bananas in Atlanta schools, and the success of our First Annual Fruitcake Competition in December was a signal to us that there’s a hunger in our community for the preservation of our culture.

This recognition would not have been possible without the hard work of the members of the Board. Along with myself, Vice President Christine Marzouca, Communications Director Laurel Wong, and Resource Director Dr. Glen Laman attended the Atlanta Caribbean Community Awards with much enthusiasm. JMCC is determined to bring global awareness to the rich Jamaican traditions that renown Atlanta Civil Rights Leader, The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. embraced and desired to see exist in the United States as he saw lived out in Jamaica.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the committee of the Atlanta Caribbean Awards for highlighting the work being done in our community, and congratulations to our fellow awardees for their achievements.

-Dr. Apollone Reid, President Jamaican Museum and Cultural Center
