Communications Director
Laurel Wong is a second generation Jamaican and communications professional who is passionate about using digital advocacy, sustainability, and design to preserve Jamaican memory and build a more sustainable future.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Minor in Studio Art, she went on to work as a freelance Brand Strategist and Designer for purpose-driven teams.
Laurel’s experience working with various non-profit organizations, including Nonviolence International New York, Oman Baako, Paint Love, and the International Rescue Committee, led her to create her own organization, “The Free Woman Project.” Through this organization, she led self-care workshops for Black women in Atlanta, curated online mental health resources, and designed and published a guided self-care journal. After three years, she decided to pursue her Master’s degree in Global Communications in Paris, France, where she also worked with tech startups in Health Tech and Sustainability.
In addition to working with purpose-driven teams, Laurel enjoys oil painting, reading, and traveling. As Director of Communications for JMCC, she is committed to using digital advocacy and storytelling to provide opportunities for other children of Jamaican immigrants to connect with their heritage.
