Director of Education

Lorraine Smith is a dedicated mental health professional who works to provide Jamaicans in the diaspora with the resources they need to thrive.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Lorraine Smith grew up in Wynter’s Pen and is a graduate of St. Catherine High School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, and is at the end stage of her Doctorate in Leadership and Management. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), a Certified Family Trauma Professional, a Certified Adolescent Trauma Professional, and an Autism Specialist. 

Recognized for her dedication, achievements, and transformational leadership in social services and mental health, Lorraine supports various churches, schools, and organizations within Jamaica and across the Diaspora. She is currently an Adjunct Lecturer and the Practicum Coordinator at the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology, sits on the board of St. Catherine High School, serves as one of the NE vice-chair Health Sector with a focus on mental health within the diaspora, and is the Georgia State Representative for the Jamaica Diaspora Southern USA. She also volunteers with the Jamaican Embassy in Washington, D.C. and provides early childhood education, counseling, and mental health support to the community where she grew up and beyond. 

As a recipient of a service award from the New York Consulate General of Jamaica, Ms. Smith’s background also includes serving as an outpatient therapist at Millhill Child & Family Development (2016), as program director for Senior Star AMDC (2011 to 2014), and for Catholic Charities Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey (2010 to 2012). 

Through her company, Solutions for U LLC, Lorraine supports individuals with all kinds of disabilities and Jamaicans transitioning to the United States, equipping them with educational and health resources and support so they can thrive. Lorraine Smith is the author of, “Through The Tears, I Rise,” a memoir that helps the reader to unlock the secrets of survival through the lens of her own life. 

Ms. Smith resides in Douglasville, Georgia, and in her downtime enjoys walking, horseback riding, cooking, interior decorating, and traveling (she is also a Certified Flight Attendant). 

Lorraine serves the Jamaican Museum and Cultural Center as Director of Education.
